Guangxi Medical University

Guangxi Medical University is located in Nanning, Guangxi, China established in 1934, GXMU is one of the oldest medical education institutes in China.

GXMU has a beautiful campus with a total space of over 400,000 square meters which provides the teachers and students with an ideal environment and conditions for teaching, studying and living. In 2010, the university was voted one of the top 20 universities in China for Medical Education.

INTRODUCTION:

Guangxi Medical University is one of the 22 oldest medical schools in China, and one of the first 8 qualified to enroll international students. The school covers an area of 98.8 acres and enrolls 8,800 students. Beginning from 1978, the international education in GXMU has become rather mature and complete. Currently, more than 300 foreign students from Vietnam, Indonesia, Nepal, India, Africa, Oceania, Europe and the United States are studying here.

The university now has 26 colleges, 4 directly affiliated hospitals, 7 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 48 teaching hospitals and practice bases. It builds a series of key disciplines and labs with Oncology Phymatology as the national key discipline, Clinical Medicine as the provincial elite discipline and preventive medicine as the provincial key discipline. It sets medical science experiment center, standard laboratory animal center, and 7 research institutions for cardiovascular prevention, snake venom, cancer prevention and control as well as 14 research laboratories for hemoglobinopathy. Among them, there is 1 key laboratory co-built by the province and ministry, and 6 provincial key laboratories. The staff team contains 1027 teachers, including 279 professors, 306 associate professors, 136 doctoral supervisors and 573 master’s supervisors.

The Clinical Medicine in Chinese was set up in 1978, and the English-medium program started in 2001. GXMU has rich experiences on medical education. And, there were graduates for years; the average rate of acquiring Medical License is 90%. In 2008, the English-medium MBBS program is recognized by MOE as the first batch of qualified universities. Now it recruits about 700 international students from India, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mauritius and Sri Lanka etc.

CAMPUS

The campus has a total area of 400,000 square meters, which includes teaching buildings and dormitories for Chinese students, international students and teaching staff, a library, food halls, an indoor tennis hall, a swimming pool and laboratories.

The campus is located near the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, which is the largest hospital in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

EDUCATIONAL BASE:

Now, the University has more than 11 thousand full time students and 3647 staff. There are 68 experts who enjoy special government allowance from the State Council, 6 young experts have in the prize of "outstanding contribution to the nation", 19 staff have been chosen as national model teachers, national prominent teachers and national advanced worker, and 52 staff have been chosen as provincial model workers, prominent experts.

The University has established exchange and cooperation links with universities, institutes, and hospitals over 50 countries including USA, Britain, Denmark, Japan, Australia etc. Outstanding staff and teachers are sent abroad for giving lectures, attending international conferences, as well as for further educations every year; meanwhile, foreign experts and scholars are also invited to the University for academic exchange and research cooperation.

Up to now, After 75 years of development, the school has become a comprehensive medical university which covers the grounds of clinical medicine, preventive medicine, nursing, stomotology and pharmaceutical science and a core force for medicine education, medical research and healthcare services in Guangxi.

UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

The Library building has an area of 29,880 square meters, has 2430 reading seats, the Library has: Circulation stacks, books, periodicals reading room, electronic reading room, television audio-visual room, medical room and 24-hour self-Novelty Library and other services; existing paper-based books over 1.2 million copies (32 thousand kinds of books), in 4000 kinds of foreign periodicals (now published 1,571 kinds); have CNKI, VIP, PML and other Chinese and foreign books, periodicals database and e-books etc

Through the library website, readers can either view New Books, books appointments, renewals, reminders and other interactive services also can also be accessed 24 hours a day.

AMENITIES:

Foreign students are provided with exquisite Hostel facilities such as Air-conditioners, Room Warmers, T.V., Telephones, Internet, Attached Bathrooms, Washing Machines etc. Indians are comfortable with food (Veg. & Non-Veg.) in the University Mess.
Facilities such as Sports complexes, Stadiums, Computer centres, Recreation facilities, Gymnasiums, Provisional stores, Post office, Banks etc. are available within the campus.

PROGRAMMES

There are nine 5-year undergraduate programs offered by the Guangxi Medical University, including clinical medicine, preventive medicine, stomatology, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, and seven 3-year college specialties including nursing, pharmacy, community medical care and cosmetology.

International education has shown a rapid development since the university begin to accept international students, whether for language study or enrolling in clinical medicine program, which offers the MBBS title for undergraduate students. International students come from India, Indonesia, Nepal, and Mauritius. Lately there are also international students from Somalia, Yemen, Kenya, Nigeria, Namibia, Thailand, and Libya.

GXMU is recognized by WHO and the graduates of MBBS program are eligible to take the Medical Licensing Examinations held by the medical councils in different countries such as MCI, PMDC, USMLE, HPCSA, SCHS etc.
